Director: Ryan Vera
FEARLESS
Ryan had the vision to create a dystopian world as a metaphor for the oppressive words we speak about young people and the overthrow of those words. Understanding the best way to go about this was to create an animated the project, he set to work to illustrate and bring this dystopian society, and its overthrow, to life.
Inspired heavily by films Akira and anime Hunter x Hunter. Ryan worked to make the dirt, lights, and capitalist nihilism tangible in each frame, whether it was the wardrobe, color palette, prop illustration, or the haunted dilapidation of a neglected factory.
The work was meticulous and a first for Ryan delving into the world of animation. But being able to world build, character build, draw, and create a visual feeling made this one of the most enjoyable projects to work on. What we were left with was an engaging, short, look into the window of another world as a mirror to our own.
