Selected Work for “How do you Scratch?”
Absurd Comedy. Heightened reality. Close shots, quick cuts.
Bright, cinematic close-ups in real-world settings.
Distinct characters in natural settings.
A Personal Note From Justin Fischer - “You’ve created something really fun and, I find, unexpectedly beautiful with the creative for How Do You Scratch? Every year for my birthday, my grandma would get me and my siblings scratch-offs, and I’ve probably used almost every single one of these objects to scratch at some point (minus, maybe, the screwdriver). What always stuck with me wasn’t even the winning or losing—it was the anticipation itself, the physical act of scratching, and how much excitement lives in those few seconds.
In my work, I’m drawn to finding the small quirks that unlock a character. In the Vlasic piece, this shows up in the coach desperately wanting to eat the pickle our main character grabs, or the manager sitting to her right, looking completely defeated by the end of the press conference. It’s those fleeting moments that make a character feel alive and three-dimensional, even if they’re only on screen for three seconds.”
