A Personal Note From Jacob - “As a comedy director and editor I've found my niche making quirky, tongue-in-cheek commercials that use strong casting and art direction to play on a serious concept in a fun way. The key with these pieces is to create a sobering tone at the beginning, combining grounded performances, realistic wardrobe, set decoration, and tonal lighting and then suddenly shift away from all that with moments that "pull the curtain back" (sometimes literally with a wide shot) to break the fourth wall and allow the viewer to see the ridiculousness of the whole setup and laugh. I know I can find the right actors, work with them to get the right delivery and create a visual world that will help sell through this specific situational humor. My Viking and Hello Fresh spots showcase my ability to create the art direction and situational comedy needed for these scripts. And my Spark for Autism and Effies pieces showcase my ability to work with talent to create dry, grounded humour that incorporates very specific copy relating back to the call to action. I can absolutely stick the landing of these tonal shifts that are so crucial in successfully selling through the comedy of these spots and would love to be a part of your team in bringing this campaign to life!”
